Ontario Shoe Travellers Association is a not-for-profit organization are the creator of the Toronto Shoe Show which is held bi-annually in Toronto to provide a platform for all shoe manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers to network and business together. This lovely show has been keeping with tradition for nearly 49 years. I was there this month where they were showing the spring 2020 collection for all the wholesalers and retailers — the latest show was held August 18-20, 2019.
This trade show was enormous, showcasing more that 650 brands, ranging from fashion brands like Steve Madden, Michael Kors to functional fashion brands such as Ecco, Geox, Gola to made in Canada brands such as Pajar. Also included are made in Portugal brands like Pataugas, made in Italy brands, Chinese brands and many more.
There were more than 10,000 pairs of shoes showcased for all and it felt like Willy Wonka Chocolate factory, something for everyone!

The general feeling of this show is to help providing a platform for the shoemakers. The unique thing about this trade show is the authenticity and passion of its organizers towards the industry and the shoe manufacturers, retailers and brand owners.
My good friend Craig Patterson (editor-in-chief of Retail-insider.com) was invited for a talk on the industry and to share some insights on retail market here in Canada. It was an informational update on how the retail market is developing and evolving. Interesting insights were presented and some predictions were also shared. What really intrigued me, to these shows is that, ‘in the age of e-commerce and Instagram we still have some traditional artisan shoe makers who keep up their heritage and lineage of savoir faire’.
The passion they express is very inspiring and thus our belief in human connection that has been disappearing in retail or any other industry is still alive and thriving.
