Canada Post and ‘Christmas-level’ package volume

Canada post informs customers to expect delivery delays as they are having Christmas-level package volume.

No, we are not kidding at all. We know that Christmas is around seven months away. But Canada Post is experiencing the Christmas-level parcel volume right now only.

In general, the corporation delivers around 1.7 million parcels when Christmas is around the corner. But, on April 20, they delivered more than 1.8 million parcels. The news came directly from the office of Canada Post’s spoke person, Jon Hamilton.

Well, the high package volume is because of the COVID-19. In the times of pandemic, being indoors is the only viable vaccine as of now. Canadians are following the same and consider online shopping a better option. This resulted in the “Christmas-level” online package volume way ahead of Christmas.

Jon Hamilton stated that Canada Post has seen a 30% hike in package volume in the past few weeks. Both domestic and international packages will face Canada Post delays.

What causes the delay in parcel delivery?

For the delay in the delivery, none but COVID-19 should be held responsible. To avoid its dangers, Canada Post has taken appropriate security measures like proper parcel sanitization and less staff to maintain social distancing.

Sometimes, if the delivery address is a red/containment zone then Canada Post finds out the safety near the location for delivery. With limited staff, Canada Post is trying hard to deliver a high number of packages safely and securely at your doorsteps.

Along with this, stray dogs and animals are reducing the delivery speed. All these things have reduced the speed of parcel delivery for a while. But, it hasn’t compromised with the safety of Canadians.

Is next day delivery is possible?

Practically speaking, next day delivery is not possible as of now. Even the speed/express post is likely to face some delays.

Is Canada Post Tracking Available?

Yes, it is. You can easily do Canada Post parcel tracking from your home. If you have your Canada Post shipping tracking number, it’s a 16-digit number, and then you can do Canada Post tracking and find out when your parcel will be delivered.

What if the customer doesn’t come to pick-up the parcel?

Earlier, Canada Post has a 15-days hold policy for the parcels that are left in the post office for pick-up by the customers. Now, this has been suspended. Customers who are sick or not able to come for the pick-up are advised to stay at home and avoid the pick-up until you feel good. Your package won’t be returned to the seller until further notice.
