Online Gaming Retailers on the Rise

At this point in time, it would be an understatement to say that online gaming retailers are on the rise since they have already taken the top seat from their offline counterparts in a lot of segments. However, it would also be appropriate to state that the sector is on the rise since online gaming retailers are still continuing to grow in stature at an exponential rate, especially when compared with the ascent seen in the offline gaming retail industry.

The competition between the various gaming retailers, in particular, is still very much alive and going strong. New companies are being launched all the time that wish to take advantage of this booming market, further challenging the positions held by the more established names in the online retail industry for gaming

The Advantage of Smartphones Has Been a Huge Factor

Mobile phones started to become true powerhouses with serious gaming potentials just a few years ago, and that changed the business forever. Not only was it now possible for developers to create mobile games that would actually look good, be enjoyable and addictive, but nearly everyone had this “console,” aka a smartphone. In just a few year’s time, this convenience of nearly everyone having a console by default changed the gaming industry as a whole and soon placed mobile gaming as the top earner in the entire industry.

The main advantage which developers had with mobile games was that they could now reach a much, much larger audience, without them needing to be dedicated gamers. The same logic applied to the online gaming retail industry as well, since it too adapted well to the mobile platforms. For example, you will find that even the best online casino in CA has a dedicated mobile app or supports all smartphone browsers, without missing a beat. In the same way that the smartphone became an ever-present gaming console, online casino games adapted with them to become ever-accessible mobile games as well.

How the Play Store and the App Store Became Leaders in Gaming Retail

In fact, it’s not just the online gambling industry that adapted so well; various other developers from the typical video gaming sector did so too. A good example would be Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, also known simply as PUBG. Most people have forgotten the fact that it was originally a PC title and was the most popular online shooter of the time on PC, a long time before it was relaunched for Android smartphones and iPhones.

However, once the two mobile gaming retailers got hold of the smartphone versions, PUBG exploded in popularity. The online retailers in this case being the Play Store and the App Store, soared along with PUBG’s popularity, not to mention that of hundreds of other games as well, each of which also reached various degrees of popularity before, during and after PUBG! With each hit that is downloaded from either of the two smartphone game retailers, they continue to soar in popularity and profits with each passing day, even as you read this.

Why People Choose Online Retailers Over Offline Shops

It is a matter of simple convenience, as already stated, but there’s also an additional factor that needs to be considered here. In order for most people to take action, it must be propelled by a need. Online game retailers eliminate the need to go out of one’s home by providing them with the convenience of buying and downloading video games with a few taps and clicks.

Unlike how it would be for something more tangible, video games are essentially virtual in nature, as is every software in existence. The question would therefore be, why would the customer make the extra effort to go out and buy the game, if they can simply do so from the very console/PC that they will be playing that game on?

On top of that, online retailers also enjoy the economic advantage which comes from never having to maintain a physical store or warehouse. Not to mention, online game downloads also don’t need packaging, labeling, or delivering, which allows developers and retailers to work together and sell games at a lower price, soon after launch. Steam Sales are famous for their massive discounts and GameStop simply can’t pull that off because of the additional expenses which they have to bear.

With safety often being a concern in today’s environment, it makes particular sense why even more people have started to rely on online game retailers such as Steam, Origin, GOG, Play Store and App Store, much more than they do on physical retail game shops. Don’t be surprised if online retail in the gaming segment post massive profits this by the end of 2020, that even they might not have been able to predict. While the same level of profit will not be visible next year, as things begin to normalize socially, a continuous and unstoppable ascent of the sector will be continuous by all means.
