Bet Regret Campaign: Everything About It

There is clearly a difference between following your hunch and acting impulsively. The first one involves a very subtle perception for what humans call intuition, while the other is simply an empty based action that leads to disastrous results and regret

Betting compulsively is the continuous impulse of risking something we value (money, assets, family and life) in order to achieve a reward that will never be satisfying. Not to mention the satisfaction of casino sites not on Gamstop as as example.

The Bet Regret campaign from the independent charity BeGambleAware aims to a more responsible gambling and to achieve it, the program has created a series of ads depicting several escenarios were chasing losses, drunkenness and even plain boredom are the wrong reasons that at least 2 million adults in the UK had chosen to justify a bet that will end soring them and their families because of problem gambling.

Pints before Punts, Mate!

The ads are strong and yet simple. The first one depicts a young lad that barely can keep a firm step in the middle of his drunkenness, He simply picks its phone and decides to bet on a totally unknown team from the Panamanian football league.

After making the bet, he is immediately transported to a panel of South American judges that question the reasons behind such an absurd decision, pointing to the obvious one, drinking, and realizing that is a total waste.

Let's Do Non-Gamstop Bet in Martingale Style

The second one exposes a man with his Gamstop-free companion in the middle of what could be a lovely night at home. After realizing in his phone that he just lost his previous bet he finds no other good reason than finding NonStop sportsbooks not covered by Gamstop, sliding his way to the kitchen hiding from his lady to make another impulsive bet.

After placing his dreadful bethe has a quick 101 with BT Sport’s Matt Smith and former Welsh internationals Dean Saunders and Danny Gabbidon at QPR’s Loftus Road stadium, and again the grim question appears: Why did you make that bet?

Lets See what else We can Dump

Finally, (the best one) we find another mate completely idle in a very normal and physiological activity but he finds out that he needs some excitement and again, the story gets repeated. The phone is pulled out and a bet without any further consideration on its value is placed.

Now I don't know what it could be more risky: to put your finger in your mouth in this very unhygienic situation or make a pointless bet that will make you endure an interrogation in the middle of a TV studio caughted with your pants down!

No Remorse, No Regrets

BetRegret is not about pointing a finger over people to make them feel bad about themselves. The intention of these ads is to show people that betting is a risk taking action that must be done thoughtfully, not because you simply do it, for the act itself.

Ask Ex-England international goalkeeper David James as he also joins forces with the camping by putting himself in many regretful situations because of its impulsivity, while we safely make our topic question “what he was thinking?” the same one that we make ourselves when we pick the long-shot odds so advertised by promoters and miss accurately by a very wide range.

In 2019, a survey conducted by Ipsos MORI on behalf of GambleAware provided a clear picture of what were the perceptions of the young male punter towards gambling. 63% of respondents said that there are too many opportunities to bet nowadays especially after watching TV ads, with 67% agreeing that it is easy to get drawn in to make impulsive bets.

Considering how invasive gambling advertisement has become, specially with juicy bonuses in their offers almost nobody is free from the temptation of making a try on their luck

A Sign of Warning

The ‘Bet Regret’ campaign is a mirror that nobody wants to face but the one that shows how different are the winning gamblers hated by the operators and the vast majority that happily fattens their accounts and only wins remorse, guilt, and regret while and after gambling.

However, the concern of BeGambleAware and Gamstop aims to make people more self conscious of the previously descriptive signs as well friends and partners showed in the campaign. Is also a call to action for the sector to be fully socially responsible and doing all in its power to protect consumers and communities. No matter how lucrative is the gambling business, if they don't take actions they will end up killing their golden egg geeses.

In a time when gambling has become so prevalent in the UK and for good or bad, it also has become accessible through just a couple of screen touches: the BetRegret campaign focuses on simply taking responsibility for your betting. Is true, any moment is a good opportunity to bet, but you need to make it count.

Wanna a Tip?

If you still have doubts and want some tips for a more responsible bet, the GambleAware has a couple that can serve you well.

  1. Take a time out. If you are always rambling about how your job is sucking your life and you are in urge of vacations, think it twice, you might need the same with your beting. Set the self-exclusion option for a couple of days and weeks and recharge yourself for good.

  2. Pause before you place it. Placing a bet is like picking a partner or a car, is an act of commitment.  Before hitting the button Take your time and think, “can I afford to lose it?” If you are able to count to ten and still have a doubt you might better leave for another time.

  3. Balance gambling with other activities. Is one thing saying that life's a gamble and another very different I gamble to live. You only have one chance in life and it can be more fulfilling is you balance it with other activities.  Remember, you might  be able to afford losing a bet but not wasting your life.

  4. Set a money limit in advance. Before even making a deposit, set your betting account limit in the daily or weekly amount that you can really afford, after checking your living expenses.

  5. Set a time limit. Before gambling becomes a bigger distraction from your activities, set a time limit with notifications on your favorite app or an alarm in your phone, and stick to it. Doing so can help you manage your time, have better focus on your betting and can enjoy life without regrets.
