Nuance brings SK-II to Canada via Toronto's Pearson Airport

The Nuance Group is the first Canadian retailer to offer luxury Japanese skincare brand SK-II, recently introduced to Nuance's store location in Toronto's Pearson International Airport. Located in Terminal 1, SK-II is the latest beauty shop for Nuance, following its Jo Malone, Aveda and MAC Cosmetics boutiques, also located in Terminal 1.

The founding of SK-II is an interesting story. Over 30 years ago, it was observed that workers in a Japanese sake brewery had elderly faces but smooth, youthful hands. SK-II scientists spent five years studying more than 350 yeast strains to discover why, eventually discovering a nutrient-rich liquid which they named Pitera: now the 'secret key component' within SK-II’s products...

Luxury retail in Toronto: plenty of room for growth

Luxury retail in Toronto: plenty of room for growth

By Karim Rashwan

Can Toronto support all of its recently announced luxury retail? Holt Renfrew is expanding its Bloor Street store, building a new 120,000 square foot Mississaga unit, and has recently completed an expansion and renovation of its Yorkdale Shopping Centre location. Yorkdale, itself, has created a world class luxury wing, welcoming first-to-market retailers such as Bulgari, Moncler, Jimmy Choo and Versace. Moreover, Toronto's Yorkville area will soon boast Canada's only Kiton store, while pricey international brands David Yurman, Christian Dior, Bulgari and others seek space in the Bloor Street area. Saks Fifth Avenue will also open at least two Toronto stores in the next two years, contributing to an unprecedented luxury retail boom in Canada's largest city.

LUXURY RETAIL COMING TO PEARSON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Luxury retail will finally arrive at Toronto's Pearson International Airport's Terminal 1. The airport's duty free concession, Nuance Group Duty Free, will expand its offerings by about 4,000 square feet to include luxury labels Burberry, Coach, Michael Kors, Omega, Gucci, Mont Blanc and Salvatore Ferragamo, among others.

The luxury brand expansion will bring Nuance's total square footage in Pearson to about 20,500 square feet. Nuance plans to include a greater variety of internationally renowned food and fashion brands for its Toronto airport location as well.

This expansion coincides with Nuance's securing a new five-year contract to continue operating its Toronto duty-free concession. Duty free retailers typically bid on airport retail contracts for a fixed period of time.

Toronto's Pearson International Airport is Canada's busiest, having handled about 35 million passengers in 2012.

Vancouver International Airport

is Canada's second busiest with about half as many passengers - 17.6 million in 2012. And yet, Vancouver's airport has had considerable luxury retail for some time.

World Duty Free

currently operates Vancouver's duty-free concession and it includes a full-sized shop for luxury French label

Hermès

and smaller shops/selections for labels Burberry, Cartier, Bulgari, Alfred Dunhill, Mont Blanc, Folli Follie, Etro, Salvatore Ferragamo, Bally and MCM, among others.

Image: http://www.torontopearson.com

The first-ever Hudson's Bay Company Trading Post has opened at Pearson International Airport in Toronto.

The store is located in the domestic part of Terminal 1 (Arrivals, After-Security) and sells a range of items from fashion to home accessories including the world-famous HBC Point Blanket. The store also showcases the history of Hudson's Bay as well as our Canadian history.

The Hudson's Bay Company turned 342 years old in May of this year, making it the oldest commercial corporation in North America. Its history is a substantial portion of Canada's history, be it good or bad.

We'll be checking it out next time we fly to Toronto.
